EducateAlabama for Librarians
Adopted by the Alabama State Board of Education in May 2009, then piloted in 2009-2010, EDUCATEAlabama is a formative system designed to provide information about an educators current level of practice within the Alabama Continuum for Teacher Development, which is based on the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards (AQTS), Alabama Administrative Code 290-3-3-.04. The AQTS constitutes the foundation of the teaching profession while the Continuum is a tool used to guide educator reflection, self-assessment, and goal setting for professional learning and growth. The EducateAlabama Librarian document was drafted in the Fall of 2010 by a committee of Alabama school librarians. -- EducateAlabama website http://alex.state.al.us/leadership/evaluations.html

Co-Teaching (School Librarians & Classroom Teachers)
This curation of resources is created to start supporting the concept of co-teaching with school librarians and classroom teachers. Co-teaching with school librarians and classroom teachers can be a win, win for everyone to include teachers, students, parents, teachers and administrators. Research shows that when school librarians and classroom teachers connect intentionally to support literacy learning as the hub of curriculum, reading achievement scores improve. School librarians can also foster independence and creativity in order to support learners as critical thinkers. Librarians can also support teachers with teaching and learning tools to improve instructional practices and technology integration. This curation is created to begin thinking through opportunities to be intentional in putting teaching and learning first for all school community members. This curation begins with the why of co-teaching and resources to support planning for small actions steps as school librarians and classroom teachers work together. School librarians and classroom teachers must intentionally advocate for the important work we can do together to impact literacy learning across content areas.
