Murder Mystery Thematic Unit
This unit engages 11th-grade students in exploring how writers and media creators build mystery, suspense, and questions of justice. Through texts such as The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Landlady, A Jury of Her Peers, The Marlowe Murder Club, and selections from Serial and Making a Murderer, students analyze characterization, evidence, and narrative structure across genres. Alongside reading and discussion, students participate in a month-long classroom mystery game, applying deductive reasoning to solve clues connected to the texts. The unit builds skills in critical thinking, media literacy, writing, and collaborative interpretation, culminating in a creative or analytical final project.
