OL5057 Application: The Binder Challenge
Ive ceased defending that which has already been proven. Instead of spending energy on feeble efforts to prove, I put this same energy into connecting people with the evidence (Lisa Murphy). The Binder Challenge (in the textbooks Introduction) is your chance to gather evidence that supports play, or as the author states from this point forward every time you find something that supports a hands-on, play based, relationship-based, child-centered, developmentally appropriate, early childhood environment, copy it and put it in your binder.
As you complete this course with us, create your binder. To meet this requirement, follow the authors directions on page two of the course text, and start collecting evidence, such as:
 Articles
 Letters to the editor
Photographs of playful signs at parks
 Book titles
 Workshop notes/handouts
 Play activities
 Play recipes
 Blog posts
 Links to play websites
 Research studies
 Scholarly papers that you/others wrote
Include in your binder anything that (from the text) reinforces and supports the fact that this [play] mindset and approach is not new, reminds naysayers that this is not simply our personal preference, and supports the fact that this is not what we like or what we want but is actuality supported by the literature, data, science, and experience
Your binder can be electronic, paper, or a combination. In Module 2, you will be asked to provide pictures/screenshots or a link to your binder.
