Columbia Pictures Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man won't hit theaters until July 3, 2012, but the studio is already mapping out plans for a sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Friday, the studio penciled in a release date for the second film in the rebooted franchise, putting a marker down on May 2, 2014. The new, revamped Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb, stars Andrew Garfield in the iconic role of Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter-ego Spider-Man. The studio has already lined up James Vanderbilt, who has worked on the screenplay for the new film, to begin work on its sequel.
