The Catcher in the Rye

Multimedia Project

Instead of an in class essay at the end of the unit, students will create a multimedia project to present to class that will cover two major themes and two major symbols. Students will be given the freedom to explore the different types of media available to them to present their project. Below are guidelines that students must follow to receive full credit. If there are any questions, please ask your teacher.

  • Students may work with a partner from the class.
    • Only groups of 2 will be allowed.
  •  A rubric created by the students must be submitted and approved by the teacher no later than Wednesday May 18th.
    • Rubistar is a great free site that students can use to create a rubric that outlines the goals of their project.
    • Students may also create a rubric on their own if they choose.
    • This project is worth 100 points, so please distribute points evenly for your project.
    • Please see the teacher if there are any questions regarding the rubric.
  • The Project is Due Monday May 23rd.
  • The Project must clearly address 2 themes and 2 symbols.
  • The Project must be presented to the class to receive full credit.
  • Students may not use the same type of presentation they gave for a previous project.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the project can be presented in class when asked. Any compatibility issues must be resolved before the presentation due date. Failure to do so will result in a lower grade on the project.

Check the Livebinder Pages for more tips and suggestions regarding this project. If there are any questions regarding any aspect of this project, please see the teacher immediately.

Project Reflections

Project Reflections

After you have completed your project presentation, you will go back and read what students thought of your project. Look at the comments and see the suggestions or ideas other might have had regarding your presentation. After reviewing the comments, you will write a brief reflection piece that will focus on the strong areas of the presentation and areas in which you could have improved. Below are the requirements for the Reflection Paper. The due date will be on the class website and discussed in class.

Requirements:

This reflection piece needs to be at least 2 paragraphs long. A paragraph consists of 6-8 sentences.

The piece should focus on the strong points of the presentation and the parts of the presentation that needs improvement. Nobody is perfect, so take a close look at the comments and see where you could improve next time.

The reflection piece should be typed up and submitted in class to the teacher on the assigned due date at the start of class.

This reflection piece is worth 25 points.

Please see your teacher if you have any questions.

Subtab 4 -- Read Before Facebook Template
Facebook Template
The Facebook Template tab to the right is a PowerPoint file. When you open it, it has a mock Facebook page of President Kennedy. You would need to change the different parts of the PowerPoint to make them fit the characters you choose.

If you choose to do this project, you will need to create profiles for 4 characters and have a 1 paragraph explanation as to why you chose this character, why they like the books, music etc. on their page and the other information given on the page.

Please see me if you choose to do this project so we can make sure we are all on the same page.
