It turns out that there are a wealth of resources on the web on Product Positioning. 

Ironically, these resources run along the same lines as some of the positioning that they strive to teach - from very simple, to highly complex.  Good product positioning is not easy.  I created an exercise to help people that I work with do product positioning.  See the Infrasystems tab above.  The rest of the tabs in this binder are other resources that I discovered on the web for product positioning.
