Welcome to Mind Your e-Manners
This project was the second project for the Bloomington New Tech Freshmen in their Success Skills class.
The project met several goals:
1. Students learned about the norms and safety issues involved with using various Internet sites and social tools.
2. Students from another school were able to visit our school and see first hand our building, staff, and participate in a project first hand.
3. Our students had an authentic audience of peers to make their first formal presentation.

Organization was key for this project. Since we were working with another school and the presentation would disrupt all morning classes in our building it was important to keep the lines of communication open with our staff, students, as well as the coordinating visiting instructor.
I assigned each room with an upperclassman that I trusted. This student was in charge of dealing with any technology issue as well as keeping the room on schedule.
Each of the visiting groups was also provided an upperclassman tour guide. This individual was responsible for keeping the visiting student group together, escorting them through the building, and making certain that all of the topics remained professional and on point.

Several workshops and activities were associated with this project.
-The Facebook article above provided a good discussion opener for a journal prompt.
-The Safety Guide was simply an initial resource for the students.
-Since this was the first presentation to a live audience, it was an ideal time to review the basic rules for visual aids as well as some basic presentation norms.
-One of our parents shared the idea of hosting a No Tech Day. Most students found it was very difficult to go a couple of hours without using technology. No one was able to go the entire day.
-My husband happens to be an intellectual property attorney. Therefore it is easy to include the copyright presentation each year.
-One of the mid point check in activities involved having the students submit questions about their topic. I then had my teaching assistant go through the questions and create a pre and post test to share with the visiting students.

Evaluation
Students were evaluated twice during this project.
I conducted a formal evaluation of each group after the dress rehearsal and before the final presentation.
The teams were also evaluated by the audience, this included the students, teachers, parents, and upperclassmen volunteers.
